Greetings, everyone! Welcome to my on-line journal. With as much as I travel, I thought this would be a good way for me to keep in touch with my friends across the world. I was born in Boston to a very unique couple. My father is Italian and my mother is Costa Rican. They actually met in Costa Rica and moved to the United States looking to start an import/export business to serve the ethnic communities along the east coast. They were wonderful role models, and I guess their entrepreneurial spirit rubbed off on me. In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, I had some success marketing a product overseas. Now, I do some consulting and some light investing. I have recently started a new adventure with some friends in Raytown, Missouri. It’s a forthcoming coffeehouse named Benetti’s Coffee Experience, and I’m just stoked to be a part of it.

The Pechter Party Experience

Greetings, everyone.

My good friend Hall Harsh sent me an interesting story that I thought I would share with you. I find it interesting that someone could have so much fun with two characters that they just made up:

Marcos, my parents had a friend, Pat Uhlmann, who had an annual party for his good friends, Norman and Patty Pechter of New York City. Pat would invite about 100 couples to his farm in Stilwell to greet the Pechters after they arrived in town for their annual visit. The party would begin at about 6 PM on a Saturday night. It was always a chicken BBQ dinner with all of the trimmings and an open bar. At roughly 9 PM, the phone would ring and Pat would answer it. After hanging up the phone, he would announce to the guests why the Pechters would not be able to attend the party. I should mention that, in the 25 years or so that the party was held, the Pechters never showed up. One year, they were unable to attend because their daughters, Shirley, Goodness and Mercy, were asked to go on as the understudies for three famous actresses off Broadway, so they opted to stay in New York. Other years had similar reasons for their non attendance. Pat gave all attendees aprons, buttons and ribbons in honor of the Pechters each year. Long time attendees would wear their gifts from prior years to honor the Pechters on their arrival, which never happened. I don't necessarily know why it seemed a good idea to tell you about this, but I thought that you would find it interesting. Hall.
