Off to the Salty Lake
Those of you who have registered for Benetti’s Bulletin know that I was recently in Bangladesh. I was there a little longer than I expected as I mistakenly negotiated my way into a chicken by offering to watch a man’s children while he played in a Cricket tournament.
Right now, I’m at my Boston apartment preparing to leave for Salt Lake City, Utah, to attend Rotary International’s Annual Convention. My mother’s father was a coffee farmer who was an active leader in the local community. Part of his service was being involved in the Rotary Club. Several years ago, I was admitted as an honorary member in the same club as my grandfather.
Many service organizations like Rotary, Kiwanis, Optimists and others are working to modify their organizations to attract young people. From what I have seen, the next generation holds a lot of potential and promise, and I’m excited to see what the leaders have in store.
Meanwhile, Ben and the crew at the coffeeshop are keeping things hopping and meeting lots of interesting people in Raytown – both newcomers and lifelong residents.
I’ll be in touch!
Marcos
